I need your help.
As the new CIO at my University, I have discovered that there are very few
(if any) policies related to technology (much less equipment/software
purchases/support). I have received several requests during the past few
months from faculty/staff wanting to purchase low-end printers for their
departments (using either grant funds or money in their department's
budget). The past procedure has been that our IT department must approve
all technology-related equipment purchases (i.e. computers, printers,
scanners, etc...). According to my IT Director, these low-end printers are
considered to be a "waste" of institution funds and will cause our IT staff
extra work in having to constantly work on them. However, many
faculty/staff think they should be able to spend their money (either grant
or departmental) on what they want to purchase.
Any suggestions? Is there a resource that can assist me in establishing
policies/guidelines that will answer these kinds of questions? Thanks!!!
