The pay scale for various employees at Gonzaga University is benchmarked
against similar jobs in either the local or national market. It is a system
that works well, for the most part, but seems to particularly disadvantage
my network manager/engineer. This person designs, configures, implements,
and manages a network for a university enrolling about 4,500 students with
about 1,000 computers and servers on the network. He has direct supervisory
responsibility over 2 network technicians. Our HR department says the
closest comparable job is a "Computer Maintenance Technician Supervisor"
with a mid-range salary of about $47,000.
1) What job title do you use for people doing similar work on your campus?
2) What is the mid-range salary for that job?
3) If you benchmark your salary against a survey, do you know what that
survey is (e.g. Higher Education Personnel Board)?
