The idea of banning pornography is very seductive and we wrote a set of
"rules" along those lines a number of years back. But, as many have
pointed out, they invite challenge and any seriously invasive attempt at
enforcement would lead to a riot.
At this point we've trimmed things down in our latest draft that we're
= Resources should be used in a manner consistent with job responsibilities.
= "Personal" use of University resources is forbidden
= Use of resources to harass, invade privacy, damage equipment,
inconvenience (etc) other people is forbidden.
This pretty much all you need I think. You can nail the guy who spams,
or who sets up a pornography web site (sexual harassment), stores huge
documents on the dept. server, trys to run a private business from work,
etc... I think the realities are that you are only going to get the
perps who invite notice in some way.
