We are a Novell network so we use GroupWise extensively. Hope you get a good sampling of ideas.

We are faced with replacing both our messaging software (Message Direct) and our calendar software (Schedule+) due to end-of-life announcements from our vendors.
We are interested in finding out what you are doing for both messaging and for personal/group calendars for your campus.
1. What software do you use for the server to collect and send email (i.e., Exchange, Messaging Direct, etc.)?
1a. Do you use the same software for faculty/staff and for students? If not, what's different?
Yes, both faculty/staff and students use the same software
2. What software do you use for the client to collect and send email (i.e., Outlook, Eudora, Netscape, etc.)
Novell GroupWise client on the campus neetwork and Novell GroupWise WebAccess client for access via the web
2a. Do you use the same software for faculty/staff and for students? If not, what's different?
We use the same client software for all. If they are at a computer that is connected to the campus network they use the GroupWise client. Students in the dorms and anyone off-campus or dialed in are able to use the GroupWise WebAccess from a web browser.
3. What software do you use for personal/group calendars (i.e., Schedule+, Exchange, Meeting Maker, Corporate Time, etc.)?
3a. Do you use the same software for faculty/staff and for students? If not, what's different?
The GroupWise is available for everyone and is the supported one. A lot of the departments and employees use the GroupWise calendaring. The calendar is available through the GroupWise WebAccess using a web browser but those using the web access use any number of different calendar programs.
4. If you could do something different for messaging and/or scheduling, what would you do?
We are just now trying to come up with a solution for virus scanning, anti-spam and filtering of our e-mail. I would have liked to have had a solution decided on and funded when we converted to using GroupWise but I wasn't able to gain support for it at that time.
