The approach we have taken at Denison is a custom solution set up by our LAN Manager:
1. A program was written which parsed our Novell NDS audit logs using the MAC addresses of PCs in the labs. We next generated reports based on the number
of hours specific PCs were used utilizing a set of rules to obtain the best possible accuracy (ignore sessions longer than 8 hrs, etc.). From that data, we
were able to obtain stats on the % of usage of specific groups of PCs in the labs by importing the data into an Excel spreadsheet.
2. For metering of software usage we use Novell's NDS licensing services to track simultaneous usage of pushed applications.
