Thanks for the helpful information. We currently are licensed for Norton
Antivirus Corporate Edition (7.6x) and have successfully used the product in
both the managed and unmanaged mode. We have a large contingent of
unmanaged clients which update from a locally configured LiveUpdate server.
More recently, in tandem with select deployment of Active Directory and
Windows 2000, we've have really good success with the managed version of the
product. It really allows us to better manage the system and more
effectively respond to virus threats. However, as we are planning a project
to further deploy the managed version, we have encountered several
questions, some of which are listed below....
Has anyone had any problems with the product reporting "false positives"?
What we have seen is viruses such as Nimda being reported in the management
console as being left alone or quarantined, but examination of the infected
host reveals that infection did not occur and the virus is *not* in
Also, has anyone had any experience with trying to use the "managed"
features with PCs that aren't currently attached to a domain or other server
resource? Our concern is that the managed server may have problems
communicating with a client that doesn't inherently allow administrative
access by the server.
Also, we are considering licensing our full-time students for NAV.
Currently it is a real "grab bag" as to what students are using,
particularly in our residence halls. We believe making the coverage more
consistent and providing an on-campus means of updating will improve the
situation. Does anyone out there license their students for this product?
If so, do you give them a CD or install it directly on their PC? Were there
any questions regarding the legal language in the Symantec license agreement
at the time of purchase?
Thanks in advance for any information! Any comments would be greatly

Yeshiva University has been using this product for a few years. We have a

We are pleased with the product. I would be happy to share technical
