Winthrop University uses Print Manager Plus. Black and White laser is
charged at 4 cents per page. Students are given $10 in "free" credit at
the beginning of each semester (equivalent to 250 pages if printing in
black and white). Color laser output is charged higher.
When students exhaust their quota, they can add to their balance by
using a webpage that increases their quota while sending a charge to
their student cashiers account (Bursar's account). The offsetting
Bursar's charge then applies an automated credit to my toner/paper
account. By automating via the web, no cards are necessary.
The entire solution cost very little to implement. No third party
assistance was needed. The only cost was to purchase the Print Manager
Plus product (I believe it costs between $500 and $1,000).

Subject: [CIO] Charge back for printing
I am looking for institutions that have a charge back system for
printing in student labs.
What do you charge per page?
Do you give any 'free' pages at the beginning of each semester/year?
What system do you use to manage this? Is it part of a campus-wide
debit card management system?
