I apologize if this is a recent question but I wanted to try to get some
feedback from this group -
Our institution is considering building ~5 new dorms (400 students) for our
residential students next fall and we are debating the level and type of
telephone service we want to obligate ourselves to provide.
We can continue to offer analog service similar to that which we offer in
the other dorm facilities, with an initial capital investment of about
We are currently nearing the end of our lease on our PBX and are considering
some small IP telephony implementations for select areas, so there is the
potential of offering IP telephony for this group of dorms.
We have also considered implementing some type of a cellular phone plan as a
substitute for the traditional analog service for students.
There are obvious financial/technological implications for each alternative.
And I am certain that there are some cultural considerations that need to be
evaluated as well (what do parents and students expect to have available,
