At the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, we use a
product from Groveware Technologies (http://www.groveware.com) for our
central calendar (http://www.unc.edu/calendar). It allows us to
create subsidiary (unit-level) calendars that can also post to a
master calendar or to any other relevant unit calendar, we can
create departments within calendars and assign posting
permissions by calendar and/or by department. We can associate
mailing lists with departments or subjects (also customizable) so
that people can be notified automatically when an event of
interest is created or modified. If anyone wants more detailed
information, let me know.
