We've been testing software from our energy office but don't like that it mods the ini file. We are trying to develop something that could be pushed out. We are interested in hearing about other strategies.

Subject: [CIO] energy savings by turning computers off
In the latest University Business Magazine, an article regarding energy conservation talks about the yearly cost savings of turning computers off at nite an estimate for University of Florida for almost 27K units is almost $5.5M.
Ive considered this strategy locally however since backups and security updates tend to run at night, I havent moved forward.
Are any other campuses implementing such a strategy? How have you measured success and has it been successful? Many thanks.
