We have used just such a service for several years now. Our experience
with them has been extraordinary (unusual I realize in this field). As
for Mike's questions:
1-Physical security - All data is encrypted and backups also with no one
person having access to the "entire backup". Their people are bonded
for an extra layer of protection. They also have as clients healthcare
providers and must abide by HIPAA which you know are tight.
2-Speed - We too were worried about that initially but the traffic which
this generated in no way affected our internet pipe. It was very
minimal. We had a T1 at the time of installation. They will send a
vault to you and do a full backup onsite to minimize the bandwidth
3-Location - From what I understand the site is underground in a bunker
so "Acts of God" do not affect the site. Redundancy and fire protection
are at their maximum levels to reduce catastrophic disaster potential.
They also replicate the data to another site for that "extra layer of
4-Stability - there is a clause in our contract where you are "given"
your data back in this case. Not very likely this company will be going
out of business any time soon however...
Contacts I have for them are as follows if you would like to follow-up:

They are good people. I have to say one of the best in the Tech
industry. Oh yes.. we have had failures and the process of getting us
back up and running was efficient and timely. Another feather in their
cap as far as we are concerned.
