One of the issues that we face related to any hosted email solution (and
other applications in general) is ADA compliance. In some conversations
with Google they indicated that their applications are not compliant and
they have no future plans to meet federal requirements for their web mail or
Google Docs. Other vendors may have limited support for accessibility.
The California State University system is embarking on an Accessible
Technology Initiative ( http://www.calstate.edu/accessibility/) that
requires us to implement accessible applications. We're hoping that the
strength of nearly 500,000 students on our campuses will stimulate
development of accessible applications.
Have other campuses addressed these federal requirements when moving their
email to Google, Microsoft, Yahoo and others? If it isn't accessible it is
difficult, if not impossible, for us to justify the migration.
