A local school system has contracted with one of the
many companies that provide notification systems and the
parents seem to like being able to be notified of something
affecting their kids. I think they are using the K-12
Connect-ED product from NTI Group (they have one for
Higher Ed too but I know nothing specific about it).
I assume this is something like E2campus mentioned
I think many of these vendors offer hosted solutions with
multiple methods of contact for an individual (work
phone, home phone, cell phone, text messaging, e-mail,
There were a couple general articles ("Staying Connected"
and "Emergency Notification and Escalation Systems"
in the Winter 2007 Disaster Recovery Journal if you have
that. They have a Web site at http://www.drj.com but I'm not
sure how much hassle it is to sign up if you aren't
already a subscriber.
Are there other resources to learn more about
notification systems? Hmmm, I see we probably discussed
this last October on this list when I searched
the Educause site.
