Your postings about marketing during a tragedy speak to the high ethical standards in our community. That doesn't mean we are free from challenges; we only need to look at the student loan industry and the impact on our financial aid colleagues to appreciate the challenges.
At a recent Educause meeting, chatting with Brian Hawkins and other colleagues, I pointed out that there is an ACM Code of Ethics:
There is also a SANS code of ethics that has relevance:
There is no "code of ethics" for the Educause community, at least not posted on the Educause web site.

by Amy Schurr, points out that "Senior management and direct supervisors play a large part in influencing ethical behavior in the workplace, according to the results of a recent study from Deloitte & Touche USA. “In order to encourage high ethical standards within our organizations, we first have to provide an environment that is conducive to ethical behavior,” says Sharon Allen, chairman of the board at Deloitte & Touche. “However, management and leadership have a huge responsibility in setting examples for their organizations and living the values they preach if they want to sustain a culture of ethics.” "
As IT leaders and CIOs, can we craft a statement of ethics suitable for the Educause community, something the Educause board could consider? Could we come up with a list of "guiding principles" for a start?
