I responded yesterday to Anne's question about policy on deciding
which staff are eligible for different types of mobile devices with
the policy draft which will be used to address the selection criteria
within UC Berkeley's IT organization.
The document I forwarded yesterday (drafted a month or two ago) also
contained prospective statements about potential IRS tax liability,
and referenced a larger, proposed, campuswide policy under discussion
at that time to provide employee allowances for device purchase, which
is not being implemented at this time. For details on the state of

As previous list traffic suggests, this is a hot topic and most of the
off-list email I have gotten about the policy was about the
forwardlooking, inapplicable parts of the document I sent. The device
selection criteria for IST (Berkeley's IT division) are now under
review and discussion, but haven't been implemented yet.
