Has anyone prepared -- or can anyone point to -- a check-list of factors
to consider (or a questionnaire or worksheet to apply) when reviewing a
contract for a hosted service?
In recent months my university has signed up with hosted services for
some aspects of HR and for an athletics website, and we're about to
enter into an agreement with a hosted service for faculty annual reports
and related assessment resources & report generation. Each time
we vet these proposals carefully from authentication/ID management and
administrative computing perspectives, but there usually remain a range
of questions related to security, performance expectations, and
responsibilities & consequences should the service go out of business.
We understand there are inherent risks in signing up with hosted
services, and we work through them as carefully as we reasonably can,
but I'm wondering if anyone has or is aware of a check-list or
questionnaire of some sort, ideally including also some performance
standards, that would expedite this phase of the deliberation process?
